Top 5 Sydney Restaurants That Locals Love

If you lined up every meal at every Sydney restaurant, the plates would reach the moon (probably), so where could you possibly consider starting when it comes time to explore its culinary scene? When it comes to satisfying taste buds, Sydney never disappoints, and to help make sure you get the best of the best, we’ve picked five local restaurants that are a must-try.

These culinary hotspots have earned a special place in the hearts (and stomachs) of those who call Sydney home. So read one for, in no particular order, our top five!

Kingsleys Woolloomooloo

Enjoy a little waterfront dining at Kingsleys Woolloomooloo with a menu specialising in premium, local steak and seafood. It’s hard to go past the harbour and city views while you explore a menu that is updated with the seasons. Just try to save some room for the huge range of desserts on offer as well.

There are plenty of options here with an A-La-Carte menu, Banquet, Riverina, or Cape Grim menus and an Alternate Drop menu for large groups. We recommend the potato and parmesan gnocchi with vanella stracciatella, Jerusalem artichoke, and chestnut, but with so many options, you’ll need to visit a few times to soak it all in.

Little Pearl Bar

Little Pearl is a casual spot to gather your friends and family to enjoy hawker-style shared plates as you work your way through the extensive cocktail list. Oh, we forgot to mention, you’ll do this with stunning ocean views of Manly Beach as well! It’s a great way to spend an afternoon.

The share plates are inspired by Asian flavours, and you can even head down for their separate breakfast menu. Be sure to try the XO Mushroom & Hor Fun Noodles with sweet soy, green onion, and crispy shallots or opt for the Feed Me menu to get a sample of a stack of great dishes.

The Rook

You may or may not be aware, but Sydney has a hidden rooftop bar above the CBD streets that has a very fun little menu. The cat is out of the bag now that you are reading this! The Rook is tucked away upon high and a great spot for a delicious cocktail and something to nibble on, seven days a week.

With both a dine-in and takeaway menu, The Rook offers a stack of delicious eats. Enjoy the ambience as your tower above the Sydney CBD munching on the Spicy Eggplant Fettuccine, which has The Rook’s special angel oil mix (chilli, garlic, olive, basil), parmesan, confit garlic, cherry tomato, basil, herb crumb, and arugula. If you just want a snack, try the Cauliflower Poppers with spicy mint chutney, spiced salt, and lime. It’s all delicious at Sydney’s elevated little secret!

The Winery

A winery in Surry Hills? But where do they grow the grapes!? While it’s not that kind of winery, The Winery is a quirky urban wine bar that comes as close as you’ll get to a regional space in this part of town thanks to its leafy laneway and terrace.

As you might expect, this spot has a very expansive wine list that pairs perfectly with the Euro-inspired menu. Larger groups can also check out the Bring Me Food and La Di Da share menus. From the roast pumpkin main to the truffle fries as a side, The Winery has plenty of delicious options, and the team will help ensure whatever you choose is perfectly matched to one of their thirty-odd drops from around the world.

Henley’s Kitchen & Bar

Henley’s is another spot on the wharf that offers spectacular water views across its two levels. Executive Chef Jason Roberson loves to design quirky menu options that encompass staples like burgers, pizzas, bowls and much more.

If you just want a little snack to accompany a cold beer or cocktail, try the Baked Button Mushrooms in black garlic butter, chilli, and a crispy crumb. If you feel like something bigger, we know you’ll be impressed by the Plant Based Burger, which has an impossible patty, tofu bacon, vegan cheese, lettuce, tomato, and the absolutely to-die-for Henley’s special mac sauce. We hope you are drooling reading this as much as we were while writing it! Get down to Henley’s for the great views and delicious foods, it’s a smart choice.
