The Best Places to Take Mum This Mother’s Day in Sydney

3 min | The Best Places to Take Mum This Mother's Day in Sydney

Sydney does not do Mother’s Day quietly. And frankly, neither should you.

Whether Mum’s idea of the perfect Sunday is a long lunch by the water with a glass of champagne in hand, two hours of bottomless cocktails and Kylie Minogue singalongs, or a paint session with a cocktail and zero expectations — Sydney’s venues have leaned fully into the occasion this year. The options are genuinely strong, and the tables are genuinely filling.

Here’s where to take her on Sunday 10th May.

Bungalow 8

Bungalow 8 is one of those Sydney venues that earns its reputation without needing to oversell it. The waterfront setting does a lot of the work before the food even arrives, and for Mother’s Day the venue is leaning into that fully — a two-course shared menu from 12pm with live music kicking in from 3pm to 6pm to carry the afternoon where it wants to go.

At $40 per person for the two-course shared menu, it’s also one of the most well-priced Mother’s Day experiences in the city. For Mums who want to stretch it out, an optional two-hour beverage package adds bottomless spritz, wine and beer for $40 per person extra — which, against the backdrop of Darling Harbour on a May Sunday afternoon, is a very easy yes.

This is the booking for a mum who wants something relaxed and genuinely beautiful.

Pricing: $40pp two-course shared menu | Optional 2hr bottomless beverage package +$40pp | Live music 3pm–6pm

The Squires Landing

If the group is the type that takes a long lunch seriously, The Squires Landing is the ticket. Running across both Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th May, the restaurant offers a $120 per person set menu that leans into the occasion properly — a glass of sparkling on arrival for Mum, shared entrées including gin cured salmon and artisan burrata, shared mains of Black Angus sirloin and half lobster with mafaldine pasta, and sides that suggest the kitchen is taking the day as seriously as you are.

The $80 per person optional beverage package gives the table something to settle into, and a $39 per person kids’ set menu means the whole family is genuinely catered for rather than quietly tolerated.

For a more relaxed option without the set menu commitment, the Brewhouse runs its regular à la carte menu all weekend — so there’s a version of this day for every kind of mum and every size of group.

Pricing: Restaurant — $120pp set menu (incl. sparkling on arrival for Mum) | Optional beverage package +$80pp | Kids’ set menu $39pp | Brewhouse — à la carte available

Darling Pavilion

Darling Pavilion’s Mother’s Day Long Lunch is genuinely one of the best-value offerings in Sydney this year. Sydney Rock Oysters and half-shell Hokkaido scallops to start, crispy fried chicken and artisan burrata in the middle, crispy skin barramundi as the main, and a hazelnut and salted chocolate tiramisu to close. There are also sides worth ordering — buttered broccolini with fermented chilli, chat potatoes with lemon dressing.

Sittings run at 11:30am and 2:30pm on Sunday 10th May, with the venue open all day as normal for those who prefer a walk-in approach.

Pricing: $65pp three-course shared set menu (min. 2 people) | Sittings: 11:30am and 2:30pm | Venue open all day

Untied

This one is for a very specific kind of mum, and that mum is going to have the best Sunday of the year. Untied’s Mothers of Pop Bottomless Brunch runs from 1pm to 3pm on Sunday 10th May and is exactly what it sounds like — two hours of southern-style brunch food, bottomless cocktails, and a setlist built around the biggest pop anthems from Madonna, Kylie and the rest of the icons. Sing-along mics included.

At $95 per person for a two-hour bottomless session, it’s perfect for a group who want their Mother’s Day to feel like a proper event rather than a quiet lunch, there is genuinely nothing else quite like it in Sydney.

Pricing: $95pp | Two-hour bottomless brunch | Bottomless cocktails included | Sunday 10th May, 1pm–3pm

Kingsleys Woolloomooloo

Kingsleys is one of Sydney’s most celebrated steak and seafood venues, and for Mother’s Day it’s bringing a $159 three-course shared set menu across two lunch sittings — 11am to 1:30pm and 2:30pm to 5pm. For Mums who prefer the evening, a la carte dining is available from 6pm with the set menu optionally available at dinner too.

At this price point, Kingsleys is delivering on every part of the occasion — the food, the setting in Woolloomooloo, and the sense that the day has been properly thought about. It’s the booking for Mum’s favourite restaurant, or the restaurant that should become one.

Cargo

Not every Mother’s Day has to be a long lunch. If Mum would rather spend her Sunday evening with a paintbrush in one hand, a cocktail in the other and an R&B DJ doing the heavy lifting in the background, Cargo has the evening covered.

The Paint & Sip Party Mother’s Day Edition runs from 5pm to 8pm on Sunday 10th May, hosted by Drip Splash — one of Sydney’s most entertaining creative event teams. All materials are included, a cocktail lands on the table on arrival, and the night runs on a soundtrack of R&B and hip hop with sing-along mics for when the mood takes the room. At $70 per person, it covers everything except the decision to actually attend, which is the easy part.

It’s the best option for Mums who’ve already done the lunch, or who simply prefer their celebrations to feel a little less formal and a lot more fun. The fact that nobody’s masterpiece needs to be gallery-ready is, genuinely, the whole point.

Pricing: $70pp | Includes all materials and a cocktail on arrival | Sunday 10th May, 5pm–8pm
